Month close: the checklist that turns a month into a record

A month is finished when everything that happened in it is written down. The checklist is how you get there; the pack is why you bothered.

By the end of this page

You will be able to close a month cleanly, know what Premises does and does not hold still afterwards, and send your accountant a pack that matches the books.

What closing does, and does not do

Closing is the checklist, not a switch. Premises does not lock a month: anything dated in August can still be recorded or corrected afterwards, and every figure lands where it belongs. A payment that arrives in September for an August invoice is September's money, because the P&L books each payment in the month it arrived, so August's figures do not change when an old debt is paid.

When something changes after the pack

The pack is built from the books each time you download it, so a correction is already in the next one. Download August's pack again and tell your accountant what changed and why; the log book keeps who changed it and when.

Who does it

Whoever keeps the money: the checklist touches the receipt inbox, petty cash, the receipt book, invoices and the P&L, so it wants somebody who can open all five. In a one-person business that is you, on the same morning each month.

Rhythm. Close by the 5th. A month closed on the 5th has an accountant pack by the 6th and a BIR deadline that is not a scramble. A month still open on the 20th has receipts nobody remembers.
